Coonawarra Sunset at Penola

Description

The Coonawarra area of south eastern South Australia has a reputation for its wineries. As part of the Limestone Coast, it hosts the Naracoorte Caves and Mount Gambier with its Blue and Green Lakes.  This regional city also boasts several sink holes in the middle of town. Penola is a pretty town just north of Mount Gambier and was once served by a railway, now a bike trail. This sunset view is to the west of the town looking towards the old railway station.

What a wonderful way to end a busy travelling day!  A walk around an unfamiliar country town – one which is normally bypassed by through traffic.  Quiet except for the crunching of dry leaves and gravel beneath one’s feet on old weedy footpaths.  Fresh air carrying the aroma of this evening’s meals.  Trees filled with twittering birds as they settle in for the night.  Almost no traffic noise.  The exciting anticipation of an haute cuisine meal at the popular pub which requires a restaurant booking.
