Description
King Island lies in the middle of windy Bass Strait, between Tasmania and the Australian mainland. Currie is the largest town on the island. King Island has 1700 human residents, several hundred thousand cattle and more than a million wallabies. Early settlers introduced turkeys, pheasants and geese which wander at will. King Island is famous for its challenging golf courses, its surf breaks and relatively mild climate. Industries are tungsten mining, beef cattle, cheeses and bull kelp for export to Norway and transformation into an amazingly wide spectrum of products.
This view of Currie Beach is beside the golf course and the kelp drying racks.
