Description

The 11th century Hohensalzburg Fortress is the largest fully preserved castle in Central Europe. At 506 metres in altitude, it towers over the Austrian city of Salzburg. Mozart’s birthplace is directly beneath in the city centre. This is a view of a gate in a wall of the fortress. Artist Dai Wynn stood beside the visitor funicular to photograph the scene.

While there appears to be much detail in this oil painting, it omits several trees and it fails to depict the television tower atop the snowy peak. Also the two people passing beneath the gateway arch might be going up or down the access path. There are also a number of signs and a fence which rather spoiled the composition. So Dai Wynn used his artistic licence.
