Description

Dai Wynn painted this view of the Makartsteg in Salzburg, Austria. (“Steg” is “footbridge” in German). This elegant bridge spans the Salzach (river). Its rusty coloured balustrade is due to several thousand coloured padlocks. Salzburg is famous as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Salzburg also has an 11th century fortress (Hohensalzburg) atop the cliff at left. Tourists access it via a funicular railway.

Dai Wynn painted this scene on linen panel from reference photos taken by him in Salzburg. He omitted the small ferry wharf at left.
