The 11th century château of Beynac sits atop towering cliffs overlooking the River Dordogne in France. The villages of Beynac-et-Cazenac line the narrow strip below the cliffs, beside the road that borders the river. Several narrow, cobbled streets climb the slopes at the foot of the precipice. We climbed a very steep and rough footpath to the château despite a road which ascends to a village beside the castle grounds.
