Great Bell Tower in Bordeaux France

Watercolours over freehand ink sketch of Jacob Tower with its huge bell (La Grosse Cloche) in Bordeaux, France. The ornate clock and coats of arms are admittedly painted somewhat larger than in reality, but deserve to be given more prominence in the final composition. Drawn and painted by Dai Wynn on 300 gsm Arches paper after a visit to south western France. 42 cm high by 29.7cm wide. A3 standard size.

I love Bordeaux, a large city in the south west of France, sitting comfortably on the banks of the wide Garonne River.  It has modern tramways, a large railway station, superb museums and art galleries, and wide open public spaces.  It also has an old part of town with several iconic gates such as Jacob Tower, which played various roles over the centuries.
