A distant view of Mount Fuji from the Hakone Ropeway in central Japan. The "ropeway" is actually two connecting cable car systems which cross the active volcanic area from which smoke and steam rise from multiple fumeroles far below. The ground beneath is laced with yellow sulphur deposits. Tourists take a small train to its mountain terminus where the cable cars then transport visitors down to Lake Ashi. A "pirate" ship makes a pleasant cruise down the lake to the port at Hakone, where a bus connects with the regional train again.
