Gravel path to the ruins of the castle above the Austrian town of Dürnstein on the banks of the river Danube.  In Austrian German it is the path to the Burgruine, Wachau, Dürnstein, Waldviertel, Austria (Österreich).  As many of the advisory signs on the path would attest, the castle was a place of imprisonment of King Richard I - Richard the Lionheart - Richard Coeur de Lion - who fell into all sorts of trouble during his busy lifetime.  The Wachau Valley along the Danube (Donau) is a major wine growing district with vines growing up to the castle walls on the steep slopes.

Oil painting on canvas panel on hardboard.  40.6 cm high by 30.5 cm wide by 0.5 cm deep.  Unframed.
